The Mountain Bar was first put on the market by Brown & Haley in about 1915 as the "Mount Tacoma Bar". The bar had a fondant vanilla center as would be found in hand-dipped chocolate of the period. The dippers would make a puddle of tempered chocolate, mixed with freshly ground peanuts, dipping the fondant into the mix and forcing it into the center. Now done by state of the art machinery, the Mount Tacoma Bar became the Mountain Bar in 1923 to reflect the fact that the bar was now available far beyond Mount Tacoma (now Mount Rainier).
