WINTER, 2006 NEWSLETTER

Although most of us have enjoyed one of the mildest winter’s on record, it looks like Mother Nature’s had the last laugh! As you snuggle in for these few remaining weeks of winter, we thought we’d share with you a delicious chocolate dessert treat, made with two of our top-selling Hershey’s products – Raspberry Chips and Special Dark Cocoa.

Berry-Berry Brownie Torte

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup HERSHEY'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine
  • 1-1/4 cups sugar, divided
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup HERSHEY'S SPECIAL DARK Cocoa
  • 3/4 cup fresh blackberries, rinsed and patted dry
  • 3/4 cup fresh raspberries, rinsed and patted dry
  • 1/2 cup whipping cream
Directions:
1. Heat oven to 350 F. Wax paper line and grease 9-inch round baking pan. Stir together flour, baking soda and salt. Stir in raspberry chips.

2. Melt butter in medium saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat. Stir in 1 cup sugar, eggs and vanilla. Add cocoa, blending well. Stir in flour mixture. Spread mixture in prepared pan.

3. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until wooden pick inserted into center comes out slightly sticky. Cool in pan on wire rack 15 minutes. Invert onto wire rack; remove wax paper. Turn right side up; cool completely.

4. Beat whipping cream and remaining 1/4 cup sugar until sugar is dissolved and stiff peaks form. Spread over top of brownie. Top with berries. Refrigerate until serving time. 8 to 10 servings.

Speaking of best-seller’s, we’re often asked by both customers and the media which of our “hard to find” products seem to be most popular. The answer changes with the seasons, but right now you’re stocking up on Sweet-Touch Nee Tea Bags, Kraft boxed Spaghetti Dinners, Habitant French-Canadian Pea Soup and a wide assortment of candy (what are you doing with all those Decade Boxes anyway?)!

Whenever you visit Hometown Favorites, be sure to check out the link on our Home Page to new products we’ve received; you might just stumble across a favorite you thought was long out of production!

We’re still working through your e-mail requests for new “old” favorites and you may notice that our “Boy, they were good” listing is rapidly expanding. It seems that for every new product we’ve added to inventory (based on customer requests) we’re sad to add another to our “dead foods” graveyard.

As manufacturers consolidate and join forces to form new, larger entities, some of your favorite foods have become victims of these streamlined product lines. We encourage you to contact these manufacturers directly to voice your concerns.
